How credible is the theory of mind over matter?
Apparently there seems to be a whole field of science research called Noetic Science based on the belief that human intention can have an effect on the world we live in. I suppose a placebo effect and the book the secret, also support this theory.
What do you guys think? Any personal experience?
The funny thing about science is, it starts out without preconceptions. It is perfectly willing to investigate a phenomenon even if it turns out to be an illusion. But it is obligated to report its findings, even if they are disappointing. The funny thing about humans is, they hate to believe they’ve been wasting time, and sometimes they’ll paste a "science" label on self-indulgent fantasy just so they can keep pretending. There is no unambiguous evidence for telepathy, telekinesis, clairvoyance or any other of the imagined remote mental powers.

anything is possible.
anything is achievable within conscious thought.
its a realm of science that is totally untapped.

I looked it up nah I don’t believe it.

it works, try it at the Monroe Institute in Virginia. No placebo effect, it simply works if you get out of the way.

What is mind? No matter.
What is matter? Nevermind.

Don’t believe everything you read in a Dan Brown book.
The field of "Noetic science" isn’t recognized by scientists as a science.
For example, Stephen Barrett, organizer of the nonprofit organization Quackwatch, whose website describes itself as a "Guide to Quackery, Health Fraud, and Intelligent Decisions," has stated that he views the Institute of Noetic Sciences "with considerable distrust." That’s how most real scientists feel about it.
To date (since their founding in 1973), they have produced no results that stand up to normal scientific standards of verifiability or repeatability, or that would pass muster in a peer-reviewed journal.
Peace.

First of all there is no such thing as ‘noetic science’. It is mysticism and a sham trying to masquarade as science.
As far as placebo effects, that is nothing new nor mystical. It is basic psychology.

I guess if you perhaps went in back in time and changed one very small thing it would impact something in the same way something you do now will effect something later, so watch your moves…
So yeah fairly credible but not completely right in my opinion. Needs to be worked a bit more.

I believe the mind has a strong potential to manipulate one’s surroundings, but the average brain only uses less than 10% of it’s potential. I believe that if we could get somebody to use even 50% of their brain’s potential, then then they could have a strong influence on both their own and other people’s realities.

They are actually developing some machines now that can be operated depending on signals from the brain.
So credible it’s true.

"The Secret" book is nothing more than fluff. total bubkiss.
HOWEVER, mind over matter IS a credible theory. many things can be done outside of our minds that we never perceive.

It depends on the circumstances.
In some cases, yes-the placebo being one such example. However, it’s not like your mind can make your body roll over and do tricks-there are certain things that the mind can’t overpower.
Do I think that people can have ESP or something like that? No, that’s ridiculous, but you can certainly affect your body through your mind-like blocking out pain.
Incidently, humans use 100 % of our brains. It’s just that only ten percent is used for thinking. So hypothetically, yes, you could utilize all of your brain, if you wouldn’t mind your memory ceasing to exist, inability to move your muscles, and total insanity from the lack of organization.
