EMBRACE POSITIVE CHANGE AT THE SUN VALLEY WELLNESS FESTIVAL, May 22-25, 2009

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

This is a video from a past Sun Valley Wellness Festival held in Sun Valley Idaho. Below is information on this year’s event:

Spring is a time for new beginnings and there is no better place to renew your body and spirit than in Sun Valley, Idaho this Memorial Day weekend, at the 12th annual Sun Valley Wellness Festival. The four-day celebration, held at the famous Sun Valley Resort May 22-25, will focus on the theme of Harmony in the Midst of Transition, and will include more than fifty presentations and workshops addressing various modalities of body, mind, spirit and environmental wellness.

Leading off the long list of impressive, nationally-renowned speakers are keynote speakers Michael Beckwith and Robert Thurman. Michael Beckwith is the inspiring founder of the Agape International Spiritual Center in Culver City, California. He is the author of many books, his latest being Spiritual Liberation: Fulfilling Your Souls Potential. He has recently been seen in The Secret and on Oprah and Larry King Live. Robert Thurman was labeled by The New York Times as the leading American expert on Tibetan Buddhism.” He is a Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies in the Department of Religion at Columbia University, and was chosen by Time Magazine as one of its 25 most influential Americans in 1997. Time described him as a “larger than life scholar-activist destined to convey the dharma, the precious teachings of Siddhartha, from Asia to America.” We are thrilled to be able to bring both of these wonderful speakers in to jointly deliver the keynote address.

The festival is also very pleased to feature a concert by Grammy-nominated artist Toni Childs, fresh off of her performance at two of President Obamas Inaugural Balls. Tonis debut album, Union, earned her Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. The New York Times called Childs “one of the most promising among a new generation of composers and performers.” Her first tour was opening for Bob Dylan. Toni’s most recent album, The Woman’s Boat, earned Toni her third Grammy nomination, for Best Female Rock Performance. Her music is deeply soulful and heart awakening. It comes from her personal and spiritual healing and transformation, and from her deep devotion to Mother Earth. She is much more than a rock star people have compared her performances to the heart-opening music of Deva Prem. We are delighted to be able to bring Toni to our festival.

There are 24 other featured speakers in the areas of body, mind, spirit and environment during the festival weekend. Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche will teach us how to overcome the problems of everyday life and experience a profound sense of well-being. Lynne Twist, the author of Soul of Money, will help us to rethink our relationship to money and to life. Azim Khamisa will share his remarkable story of forgiveness in the midst of tragedy with us. Don Goewey, through his work in neuroplasticity, will show us how a dynamic shift in attitude could rewire the brain, making us immune to stress and unlocking the creative intelligence that brings meaning and purpose to our lives. Joyce Hawkes will provide ways to find the interface between consciousness and the body and practical means of making that connection for health and vitality. Darren Littlejohn will address integrating Buddhism and the 12-Steps to deepen spiritual recovery. Marie Manuchehri will explore energy medicine. Steven Pratt M.D., a world-renowned authority, will address on the role of nutrition and lifestyle in the prevention of disease and optimization of health. Noah Levine, the author of Dharma Punx, will explore the pertinent application of Buddhist wisdom to our lives, communities and society.
